Daisy would be laying on her bed it was raining outside and the only other person here was Syx her other two team mates happened to be out on that day. The pink hared girl would shift angerly "hey blind girl what are you doing?" Daisy would look over at the girl a bit of agitation why did she have to get stuck with this blind bitch and the other two idiots out of all the kids in the school why did she get stuck with these ones.

Mother looking at me Tell me what do you see? Yes, I've lost my mind
Daddy looking at me Will I ever be free? Have I crossed the line? | Rain. It was a truly wonderful thing, and something that Syx had regrettably never seen. She had been told that the village children always got upset at the sight of dark clouds in the sky, but she had never quite figured it out herself yet. From what she had been told throughout the years, rain was essentially water falling from the hills in Shal'remir, the holy place associated with the belief system practiced in her village.
She had been considered as the one closest to Shal'remir, as she could see the true hearts of those that entered the village due to her Sense. However, she knew in truth that she was no closer to those glistening, river-lined hills than anyone else on this world, and as such made no claim to be any better than those around her. Such an attitude had so far served her well in Beacon Academy, so she knew she must have been right to think such a way.
In the current moment, however, she was occupying her time in one of her increasingly favorite ways: reading. Not the conventional way, however, and certainly not through the use of that touch-based reading style the librarian had tried to convince her to use. No, she was much more interested with the concept of listening to a story whenever she wished. Back in the village it was commonplace for the elderly and wise to tell stories of their adventures outside of the village and of their heroic deeds, so what the librarian called "audiobooks" were just another interesting version of her old life for Syx.
Now, there were distinct advantages to these "audiobooks" though. For one, she could pause them whenever she wanted, they didn't take up a whole lot of space, and she could rewind the story back to a particular moment if she felt she had missed something. Which was a rather astounding thing considering elders were not so easily convinced into backtracking through a story. No matter how short of a distance it was.
As such, when she detected the voice of her teammate addressing her from across the room. There was really no way it wasn't Syx being addressed, as White and Orange had left for some thing or another and the Oracle was fairly certain Daisy didn't have any friends that weren't already rooming with her.
Or really any friends at all for that matter.
Taking the single white earbud out of her right ear and lowering the volume on her scroll, she tilted her head slightly to the right in order to answer the other girl's question, Syx's voice soft and calm as she addressed the significantly "less pleasant" member of her group. At least, that's what she had heard some other students saying. Daisy was fine in Syx's mind. True she was a bit mean, but she did have a similar color of Aura to the young Oracle herself, so she couldn't really be THAT bad.
"Reading, for the most of it. Why is it you ask?" Her speech still wasn't fluent enough for her to pass as a native speaker, but it was improving more and more each day, a feat which did make Syx a little happy. She kept her volume down and the earbud out so that she could listen to Daisy, but Syx kept the book playing so she could read in the spaces in between when one of them spoke. |

The girl would look at the audio book for a moment. "Because I'm bored...what book are you reading?"Daisy honestly didn't care about the book but she wanted to do something and idle conversation was a nice start at least. "I wonder how easy it would be to fuck with a blind girl...couldn't be that fucking hard...I bet I could leave and she not even know it."

Mother looking at me Tell me what do you see? Yes, I've lost my mind
Daddy looking at me Will I ever be free? Have I crossed the line? | Boredom. Syx found it rather strange that Daisy would rather remain bored in this dorm room talking to her than out and about the Academy grounds. Rain or not, there were bound to be a few umbrellas down in the lobby that would no doubt be up for grabs by any student who wished to take one. The main reason why Syx was still in the dorm room was because she would undoubtedly get lost if she left. The hallways were usually fairly empty, meaning that it would be only far too easy for Syx to find herself walking into a wall.
Although she reasoned her current company may have enjoyed that, considering all she'd already been told.
Tapping a few times on the screen of her scroll, Syx waited a fair moment before listening to the words her device spat back out at her. It was a novel, of course. One of the ones she'd found herself a fair bit interested in. She was only in the third chapter, so she couldn't exactly explain the plot of it, but from what she had heard thus far it was a romance novel centered around a pair of Special Forces agents on the trail of some tsar'xi or something.
Syx could understand why they'd be chasing a Grimm, but she had begun to reason to herself that there would end up being much more to the story than that. Perhaps an unexpected plot twist just before they reach the Grimm, or maybe a few close friends of the main protagonists die in a firefight against the big evil the story was hinting at.
However, that wasn't the question she had been asked. Syx tapped again to coax her scroll into repeating the name of the novel.
"Fire and Brimstone," she answered politely, tapping thrice on her scroll in order to tell it to go back to the previous page she had been on. She was constantly astounded by the technology possessed by the people in Vale, and was a bit shocked when she heard it was just as advanced in other kingdoms. She still had some trouble operating the elevator, yes, but she managed...
The only issue was making sure she didn't hit the wrong button fourteen dozen times in a row. |

Mother looking at me Tell me what do you see? Yes, I've lost my mind
Daddy looking at me Will I ever be free? Have I crossed the line? | Another question. The statement it followed had been rather crass, but Syx was willing to overlook that given the nature of her companion. It wasn't much other than that. Some people merely thought others were boring, and Syx knew very well not to try and change their state of mind. She often had found herself wondering what else she could do in order to make herself more interesting, but nothing had ever come to mind despite the many years she had spent pondering that question.
People would just have to appreciate who she was, and if not: appreciate what she could become. Such thoughts usually kept her mind from straying to darker places, and were part of the reason she still found it easy to smile despite being in an unfamiliar place and in unfamiliar clothes. Not only that, but they had given her a rather fancy piece of white silk to cover her eyes with instead of the dirty and worn linen cloth she had used when she had first arrived.
While she still used her old one on occasion, she had found the silken cover to be a great deal more comfortable, and had taken to wearing it whenever she wasn't going out anywhere dangerous. She still kept her old one for the main purpose of mission use, as such a soft cover like the one she had been given when she came to Beacon must have been rather costly to create.
However, that wasn't the point. The girl had asked her why she hung around in the dorm room with her instead of avoiding her like the rest of their team seemed to do. While Syx didn't quite believe that Aeronwen and Lumaca were avoiding Daisy, she could see how it may have seemed to the aforementioned teammate, and thus decided to view such things from the other girl's perspective.
"It may be because I'm appreciative of anyone's company. Especially that of my fellow team members," Syx said, "Why the others seem to "avoid" you I do not know. As of late you have not done anything that would make me wish to..." Syx's brow furrowed as she struggled to find the right word. A moment later she did though, and finished up her sentence, "...disassociate myself with you in the slightest. I actually rather like having you around. It gives me comfort to know when my eyes are open."

Daisy would become flustered at the girls words she was not used to people liking her around at all. It was nice in a way she pushed people away a lot most times on purpose but she didn't want to do that with this girl for some reason. instead she would sigh softly and get up slowly off her bed before walking over to syx and leaning down over her. "Hey..Can I see your eyes?"Daisy did wonder what they looked like and it seemed to be a good way to bond slightly.

Mother looking at me Tell me what do you see? Yes, I've lost my mind
Daddy looking at me Will I ever be free? Have I crossed the line? | Third question. This one a slight bit more personal. The book was one thing, but Syx was a little bit apprehensive of letting the girl see her eyes. Syx had been told they had been disfigured when she lost her sight, turned into almost brutally unnatural things, but at the same time things that should be safeguarded while she still had them. It was often better for people to believe she didn't have them at all.
But this was her team mate, not some random child in the village square. Surely... surely it was fine for Daisy to see, correct? It was like hiding a Faunus trait. You did it to safeguard yourself, but when someone you are supposed to get to know and learn to trust asks to see it you show them. You show them as a show of trust, telling them wordlessly that you'll fight by their side through thick and thin.
After a few more moments of silent deliberation Syx slowly nodded, unsure of whether this decision would be for the better or worse. Nonetheless she allowed the other girl to remove the silken cover from her face, her eyes coming out from their endarkened protection for the first time during Syx's waking hours.
Now exposed to the sight of others, Syx's own sightless eyes were truly a sight to behold. Her irises were of a faded amethyst, the color obviously having been far more vibrant of a shade before she lost her sight. The light reflected off of them, but it was clear she couldn't see anything despite that. On the inside edge, facing the middle of her face, the pupils of either eye were jagged down the side, the other sides slightly faded as well but not nearly as worn.
The pupils looked as though they had almost been pulled into one another, but couldn't because of Syx's skull. The thought of such an act would no doubt be a painful one, but it would still pale in comparison to the pain that must have been wrought on the young girl the eyes belonged to.
However, Syx was still slightly apprehensive. Part of the reason she covered her eyes was because they scared people. It made her seem much friendlier and harmless if she covered them up, as her eyes were rather unsettling to look at for most people. |

Daisy would smile a little bit as she looked into the girls eyes for a few seconds before shrugging and smiling a bit more. "I don't know why you wear that blindfold your eyes are cool looking."Daisy would keep looking into the girls eyes carefully making sure to note every detail. "you know your adorable in a way."

Mother looking at me Tell me what do you see? Yes, I've lost my mind
Daddy looking at me Will I ever be free? Have I crossed the line? | A... compliment? About her appearance? While this alone wasn't enough to baffle the young Oracle it certainly was enough to cause her to give pause. Her eyes were not usually something she had been praised for, as if that was not evident enough. She had always been led to believe they were horrific to look at, as though they had been taken out of a young child's nightmare after being told a frightening tale by one of the village elders.
Never in her life had she ever believed her eyes would be looked upon not as a scar or wound that needed far more time to heal, but as a wonderful feature to who she was. The thought alone had the young girl finding herself with a smile on her face. She thought for a moment on what to reply with, surely one must return one polite compliment with another? She couldn't simply allow her teammate to say such an odd thing without herself doing so in turn, could she? No, it simply wasn't fathomable for the girl.
"Well, your aura is a rather pleasant color," Syx spoke with some degree of hesitancy. Most people weren't aware of her Sense, of how she could quite literally see a person's aura, see their emotions play out before her sightless eyes. She figured Daisy had at least some idea of the ability, since she hadn't been taken aback in the slightest when Syx had made the comment on why she appreciated the company. Knowing when her eyes were open was one thing, but truthfully she appreciated the company because she had never had companionship before.
Friend was an entirely new word to her in the context the rest of the world used it in. She had always merely likened friend with ally, but had noticed rather quickly that her definition of the word was horribly flawed indeed when she had arrived at this school. Of course, she had never been able to voice the concerns that had stemmed from that realization. As a result she had found herself unwitting as to whether she was able to consider her teammates as friends or simply as allies.
Perhaps Aeronwen could constitute as being a mere ally. The girl didn't seem to be much for conversation, and hadn't made much of a comment on Syx's blindness since they had met. It was polarizing that people could be so different from one another yet still share a common goal. It was truly a fascinating thing for the young Oracle indeed. |
